Formula 1 returns to Portimão

The Algarve circuit returns to the calendar after having hosted Formula 1 in 2020 and 2021. And the return will not be for just one year: Portugal is also confirmed to host the competition in 2028.

What is the Portimão circuit like?

Known as the Algarve "rollercoaster," the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve is approximately 4.6 km long with 15 turns.

The constant climbs and descents, fast corners, and changes in elevation make Portimão a particularly challenging circuit that is different from many other tracks on the calendar.

Has F1 raced in the Algarve before?

Yes. Portimão hosted Formula 1 for the first time in 2020. Lewis Hamilton won and achieved his 92nd victory that day, surpassing Michael Schumacher's record for wins.

The competition returned in 2021 and Hamilton won again. In 2027, the single-seaters return to the Algarve for a new edition of the Portuguese Grand Prix.
